Putting together this recording was a special
experience for us, as several pieces have important emotional ties to our past.
We also found great joy in the creative process that occurred with the musicians
who shared with us on REVERENCE.
We felt uniquely blessed by this collaboration with
these musicians, and it seemed as if God played a very active role in uniting
our creativity. For example, We needed a bigger environment to record
several of the selections. Searching around, we went to friends who
had converted their indoor swimming pool to a large living room. The
acoustics with its domed ceiling were ideal.
However, the night of the recording session brought
with it a small gale, and the wind noise prevented us from recording. We
had run out of time and were going to quit when the wind suddenly disappeared.
We quickly recorded
The Lord's Prayer and Ave Maria with one
take each, an unbelievable feat for the the Collecting Consort especially
with guest musicians.

Tony Patterson's keyboard and arranging skills are featured on The
Old Rugged Cross, The Lord's Prayer, Spring Beauties, and Ave Maria.
He is also the composer of one of our selections, Spring. |
In addition to being a frequent concert soloist, Tony
serves on the keyboard faculty and is the choir accompanist at Alma College,
Alma MI.

Nancy Summer's oboe created
a beautiful essence on Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child and Wayfaring
Stranger .
Nancy shares here
talents as guest conductor with several different musical organizations in the Grand Rapids,
MI area in addition to her work as an oboist. |

Pooh Stevenson
with
sister musicians Kitty Donohoe &
Wanda Degan
|
|
| Pooh Stevenson is
Anne's cousin. She has been a frequent guest at our
recording sessions, and we always deeply appreciate the
sensitivity she brings to us.
On this recording, Pooh's cello enriches the ancient Irish
melody, Be Thou My Vision. |
|
She is known around Michigan
for her work with the Dennis Cyporyn Band and Lonesome
& Blue. She was also a member of the former Lady
of the Lakes. In addition, she raises organic vegetables and
flowers with her family on their Central Michigan farm.

We have always enjoyed the special energy and
quality that Jeff Ayres contributes through his musical offerings.
His contribution to this recording is no exception. You will find Jeff's trumpet
adding a very special dimension to Joshua Fought the Battle of Jerrico/Go
Down Moses and Abide With Me.

Jeff is a band director for Greenville Middle School,
Greenville, MI. He is also in demand for his jazz and big band work.
Jack Bert's
expressive violin touches the contemporary compositions of Spring
by Tony Patterson and Spring Beauties by Roger Aldridge. Jack and
I (Gary) worked together in the Radio Department at the Interlochen Arts Academy
back in the 60's. It was good to be back together after so many years.
In addition to his work as a free lance musician in the
Traverse City Michigan area, Jack also serves as concert master for the Traverse
City Symphony Orchestra
As usual, several
of our melodies are introduced by the gentle sounds of
Mother Nature.
