COLLECTING CONSORT
INTRODUCTION
It is with great pleasure that I
have the opportunity to introduce you to the Collecting Consort. For the
past 15 years, this ensemble has traveled from the Atlantic to the Pacific
Oceans and from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico sharing their music and
stories.
Governor Jennifer Granholm has
recognized their travels throughout the country as ambassadors for the state of
Michigan. Audiences in excess of 300,000 people have experienced their
documentation of Michigan's heritage and the music of the people who settled
here.
The Collecting Consort has
released 17 recordings selling over 150,000 copies. These recordings have
received worldwide recognition for their sensitive, emotionally moving
qualities. Compact disc and cassette recordings will be available during
intermission and after the performance.
One reviewer described the
Collecting Consort as "gentle music performed with sensitivity, elegance
and grace,". I invite you to sit back and enjoy the Collecting
Consort's montage of music, poetry and stories. Tonight's program is
