For us here in the United
States, the spirit of
the American Christmas comes from the many ethnic groups that have
created our country.
To reflect this heritage, we
have chosen some of the most meaningful folk melodies from these
countries.
The liner notes tell the
history behind these selections, and the traditions brought to the New
World by these immigrants.
Anne Wakenhut:
Celtic harp & keyboard
In addition to her work as a
musician and her volunteer services as a Certified Music Practitioner,
Anne is employed as a special education instructor and utilizes a wide
variety of creative approaches to assist the growth of her young
students.
As I work with my students, I
feel it is important to provide them with a sense of their roots.
Folk music introduces a heritage they can easily call their own.
Gary
Wakenhut: Irish flutes & whistles, clarinet, pan flute, & hammered
dulcimer
Gary augments
his profession as a musician by volunteering his services as a Certified
Music Practitioner with children experiencing severe disabilities,
nursing home and hospice patients. He also works within his
community and church organizing & training volunteer groups.
I love
sharing these melodies with my hospice patients at this time of year.
It seems to help bring a gentle sense of peacefulness to the last page
of their lives.
